LauncherPro trades “Beta for “Plus” & brings the heat!

July 19th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

I am a huge fan of LauncherPro I have been running LauncherPro Beta for a couple of months now and absolutely love it on my Droid. Its smooth customizable and coupled with Froyo it runs great. Today the developer announced the LauncherPro Plus with a Contacts widget, Federico has promised several more widgets but has also advised that with more widgets the cost will go up, Though he states that if you purchase now you will be entitled to future updates at no extra charge.

So last week I promised you big news coming to LauncherPro. It took a bit longer than I expected, but hopefully it was worth the wait!

One of the features I get requested the most is to support HTC Sense widgets. It seems everyone wants them. Because of the way these widgets are built into the HTC Sense launcher itself, this is simply not possible. And since not every Android user has a phone with HTC Sense, these widgets are not even available to all users.

Today I’m glad to announce a new milestone in LauncherPro’s history. Starting today, there’s a new version called LauncherPro Plus, which will contain several widgets, exclusive to LauncherPro Plus users.

Upcoming widgets include:

People Widget – To quickly access all your contacts, or just your favorites, or a particular group. (Included in this release)

Bookmarks Widget – Quick access to your browser’s bookmarks

Friends Widget – Lists your friend’s status updates from Facebook and Twitter, and lets you update your own status too.

Calendar/Agenda Widget – Shows you a calendar you can scroll through to switch months, and also lets you see your agenda for any particular day right within the widget.

Messaging – Scroll through a list of your SMS messages or one by one. Quick links to delete messages, reply, etc.

I’ll be adding these widgets over the next couple of weeks. The “People” widget is available right now to LauncherPro Plus users. There’s going to be other features in the future that will be available only to Plus users too.

Bendroid releases CarWash 3D & VZW Droid contest

July 10th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Bendroid, maker of the Mystique series of games that have proven to be popular games on the Android Market have released their latest effort, CarWash 3D. Similar in style to the Air Traffic control games users direct cars while avoiding accidents. I played for a little bit today and enjoyed the app, graphics are nice the textures aren’t top notch but its not a $50 game so what should you expect? Game play is fun even as its not cutting edge.  Not a bad game and certainly a good candidate for the #PaidAppPledge

Car Wash 3Ds official stats
CarWash 3D is the world’s most challenging game created just for you. Touch and guide cars directly into the car wash and avoid being hit! Remember, you need to wash every car, otherwise you are OUT OF BUSINESS!!!

- Beautiful 3D graphics.

- WARNING: Insanely addictive gameplay.

The classic is reborn Augmented Reality style with a little Android for color! This ought to be fun! I want to get my hands on this!

Qualcomm recently introduced their Augmented Reality platform and SDK in order to enable the next generation of vision-based augmented reality applications for Android. The company is sponsoring a $200k developer challenge to encourage the use of their new platform and teamed with Mattel to demo the technology.

The team at the new Qualcomm Augmented Reality Game Studio, established at Georgia Tech University, showed off a Rock’em Sock’em game that mixes both real-world and rendered visuals to create a unique gaming experience.

Twidroid is Twidroyd and has a new owner too!

July 6th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

That pretty much says it! I haven’t played with the app myself I’m a relative newcomer to Twitter. Tweet up has purchased the app, renamed it to avoid the licensing beast that is Lucas Films and started pushing for the app to be preloaded on phones! Most developers forget there is a OEM market to push their apps to and Tweet Up is doing a great job if they can get Twidroyd preinstalled on handsets this year!

Why the name change? To avoid any pesky licensing fees (or lawsuits) with Lucas Films (as in George Lucas — as in Star Wars — as in droids — as in C-3PO and R2-D2). Makes sense. Check out the full presser after the break. [Twidroyd]
