Logitech’s Revue with GoogleTV Unboxed and First Impressions [Video]

October 25th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

I was so glad to see a wonderful little box left on my doorstep by UPS today, It was my Logitech Revue with GoogleTV! I like many others have been waiting for this since Google’s announcement at I/O earlier this year.  First impressions are pretty good, its not perfect by any means but such is the life of an early adopter, It was very easy to install and the keyboard is pretty good, I would like to see a rechargable battery pack/charging station accessory some time in the future as of right now it runs on 2 AA batteries, Setup was easy as pie just followed the on screen prompts and it only took about 10-15 minutes with a system update. Without further ado I’ll let you take a look at this sleek little device…

Intel’s Take on Smart TV – Google TV Demonstrated at Comic-Con

July 27th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Intel had a huge display the San Diego Comic-Con this year. They were giving away Core i7 processors, T-Shirts, signed Comics (related to Megamind, a movie debuting this November) and more!  I wasn’t able to attend but I followed tweets from Intel’s on scene rep. Of course they were sporting awesome T-Shirts as well (I have got to get me one!) “My TV is Smarter than Yours”.

Why the World Needs Google TV

July 12th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

NewTeeVee has an impressive piece on Google TV entitled “Why the World Needs Google TV”. A great read to be sure! and also mentioned on the Logitech Blog as well as our friends AndroidGuys. I absolutely feel the same way these guys do, I cannot wait to get my hands on the Logitech Revue with Google TV. I was not at Google I/O but I was watching the Keynote live via YouTube, I had no idea Google TV was even a concept much less about to be demoed. Since that time I have been biting my nails waiting for it to be released. This product will bring content sharing to the masses. This is truly an EVOLUTIONARY idea, not only for consumers but for marketers, content providers and application developers. Google TV is based on Android OS and will have access to the Android Market while running a full Chrome browser giving it access to the Chrome Web Store once it is released! You are getting 2 different Application Repositories with limitless possibilities! As a developer I want to reach a wider audience and with more than 100k Android phones being activated daily that user base is growing exponentially throw on top of that tablets that are coming to market soon and then this! Android is EXPLODING onto the scene, Kicking Ass and not even bothering to take names! Android isn’t the big bully on the block but it have moves like a prize fighter! I’m waiting anxiously Google, Logitech!

Google TV will be important, and could be revolutionary — but not for integrating the web into TV. Far more important than its built in browser is Google’s ability to bring apps to the living room — and to even possibly do it at a scale that could lead the app economy on the television.

Logitech embraces open source and GoogleTV!

June 29th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Logitech Embraces open source and Android! Logitech’s Products VP has posted on Logitech’s blog “Why we think open systems are great”

From a product development standpoint, one of the many reasons we’re so excited about Google TV as a platform is because it’s not a closed system.

(Don’t worry – we’ll still be making speakers for iPod docking and Mac peripherals while there’s still demand in the market and opportunities to create great experiences.)

We’re dedicated first and foremost to getting people to interact with what they want to do, the way that’s most natural for them. That’s any platform that makes sense; regardless of the screen people access it on – computer, TV, conference room or mobile phone.
