Samsung AT&T Captivate Review – Video

August 18th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

captivateSamsung was kind enough to send me one of their Galaxy S variants for AT&T the Captivate, What a wonderful device. The first thing that jumps out at you with these phones is the Super AMOLED screen, No picture or video can do this screen justice its simply amazing. Samsung has really created a game changing piece of hardware with the Super AMOLED screen. Apple’s Retina display doesn’t compare, Samsung’s previous generation AMOLED screen doesn’t come close, The only possible contender is Sony’s Super LCD which I haven’t had the chance to see in person yet. The screen is great and most certainly one of the standout features but it isn’t the only thing that makes this device great. Samsung’s version of the ARM Cortex A8 called the Humming bird running at 1GHz as well as the Dedicated graphics processor and so much more make this really nice phone, Especially for those that are on AT&T and looking for a real smartphone alternative to the iPhone. Dell Streak will get Froyo just not before launch & says no to T-Mo

July 27th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Dell Offered the Streak up for pre-sale and it looks as though business has been good! There are a lot people excited about this device and according to Dell’s blog post the Streak has outsold all other devices offered as a pre-sale before. The big shocker is that Dell has officially announced that there are no plans to certify the device for use on T-Mobile’s network. Secondly is that it will receive an OTA update for Android 2.2 (Froyo) later this year, expect it to be later rather than sooner remember this is Dell’s first Android device so expect some growing pains. They also announced that the device will be available in Carbon Black on Launch with New Cherry Red available at some time soon. They are continuing to offer pre-sale of the device and also offer a $0.99 bluetooth headset to those that pre-order as well as free 2-Day shipping with the option to upgrade to Next Day. Dell has also confirmed today that the device will launch tomorrow!

[UPDATE] Samsung Captivate first impressions & Boot Animation – Added unboxing videos

July 13th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Today I received my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate for AT&T, Special thanks to Samsung for sending my the review unit! This wont be a review just a few pics and my first impressions of the phone. First off as I had heard when others first see a Super AMOLED screen all I could think was “Wow” its a bright and vibrant screen! Outside in direct sunlight (which I plan to do photos of) it washes out but not as bad as my Moto Droid its still pretty usable. Size wise this thing is borderline perfect, Certainly not too wide or tall. Its about half the thickness of a Moto Droid, Almost exactly the same thickness as the back portion (hardware keyboard). Its light but not too light all in all it seems like a nice phone so far and thankfully AT&T is finally getting a High End Android Device, this may well keep power users happy on AT&T for the time being… I’m off to play with it some more over the next week or so If you have any questions send an email to questions@androiddose.com and put Captivate in the subject line, I will try and make sure I answer them in my forthcoming review. Below I have attached some quick pics I took (better quality pics will be coming with the proper review) and a short video I uploaded to YouTube that shows the boot animation.
