Motorola Droid FroYo rumored OTA day has come and gone… quietly

July 14th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

July 13th came and went without so much as a whisper from Motorola or Verizon. While many sites latched on to the rumored release of FroYo via an OTA update there was never any official word. So today has come and I pose the question (being a Droid owner myself) “Are there any non-rooted Droids left?” I know most people got fed up with the 2.1 update and rooted/ROM’d because of the delays getting 2.1 out… Are you waiting patiently? Are you running the latest version of todays super hot mod ROM? What are your thoughts? Personally I don’t think it will be around anytime before mid-August, With all the Droid X hype right now and the coming Droid 2 (which they are losing customers on already (You hear that Motorola! Locked boot loaders are not a way of saying thank you to your best customers!), I love my Droid, but it will be my last Motorola phone unless things change for the rumored Droid Pro or whatever they have coming towards the end of the year… Locked will mean a quick and easy pass for me.

AdMob Stats Breakdown! Top 10 Android Devices, OS Market Share, Satisfaction Levels and more!

July 1st, 2010 Aaron View Comments

Android Police has done a nice writeup on the AdMob data recently released and come to some pretty interesting conclusions HTC and Motorola are the Android dominators at the moment with the Droid being tops in Marketshare @ 21%, I was surprised to see the Nexus One so far down on the list honestly… either way a lot of good info there for those that are interested.

One particularly interesting piece of information is their ranking of the top ten Android smartphones in terms of market share, based on data collected by AdMob in May of this year. You can view the list and each handset maker’s own market share below.

Combined, HTC and Motorola are dominating the Android handset market with an 83% share. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the stats change in the coming months with Samsung, currently at 5% (at least in the top 10 list), gunning full speed to regain their own Android market share.

Hands-on Flash Player 10.1 Beta 3 for Android 2.2

June 26th, 2010 Aaron View Comments

I love the idea of Flash on my phone (Moto DROID running Pete’s Bugless Beast v.1 Froyo ROM) and I’ll even admit to playing around with it a bit, but honestly I don’t “need” Flash I don’t do a lot of surfing that involves Flash, I was very keen on using Hulu for a couple days until the plugged that hole :( but still I know alot of people use, love, adore, want and more importantly need Flash support and its great that Google and Adobe have worked together to get this on our devices, now lets see how it looks on a Nexus One with the final Froyo build sent to AOSP this week…

The wait took a little longer than expected, but Adobe finally made good on their promise to bring Flash Player 10.1 to the Android platform. The first beta was released during Google I/O and it was a little sluggish at first, but Google and Adobe have worked closely together to improve performance.
