Sprint announce that senior V.P. Kevin Packingham will leave the company. Packingham was instrumental in Sprint becoming an Android powerhouse in recent months, With the release of the HTC EVO 4g and the upcoming release of the Epic 4G Sprint has stepped in the smartphone game. With the Samsung Galaxy S variant set to come to Sprint as the Epic 4G Kevin wanted to make sure it was going to be just that, Epic! He had the vision to bring the front facing camera, 4G(WiMax) support and slide out qwerty keyboard to the Galaxy S making it really stand out in the sea of Galaxy S devices available in the US. Now that Sprint is losing its Android advocate will it lose the momentum it has gained in the Smartphone arena? As others have said Sprint needs to find a replacement that knows just how important Android is.
Sprint announced that this quarter they have posted a net gain for wireless subscribers for the first time in 3 years. The nation’s third largest carrier finally has something to offer potential customers. The HTC EVO 4G is a big customer draw for Sprint, If they continue to deliver new 4G devices (The Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G is due out in August) and expand their 4G coverage Sprint should have no problem maintaining a net growth in the coming quarters. Sprint posted a net gain of approximately 111,000 customers. This was also the 10th quarter where Sprint improved Customer Care Satisfaction and First Call Resolution. It wont be smooth sailing on just 4G, the HTC EVO and Samsung Epic, 4G’s cousins are coming, T-Mobiles HSPA+ and Verizon’s LTE are both slated for customer deployment in the coming months with handsets and mobile internet cards already being leaked. However if Sprint continues to offer top tier 4G devices with the right marketing they have a great chance at becoming a major player again fighting AT&T and Verizon.

Cyanogen has announced that they are getting closer to a fully functional ROM for the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint’s network! Nightly builds are available though if you choose to use them they ask that you do NOT report bugs as they have a dedicated team of beta testers already working directly with the development team. If you have an HTC EVO 4G and are trying out the new ROM please leave us a comment about how its running for you!
CyanogenMod, one of the most popular Android ROMs, will shortly be released for the HTC Evo 4G. The new ROM, developed by XDA developer cyanogen, will contain the new Froyo build, with Sense not cooked in. The reason for this is the fact that Sense locks down certain elements of the ROM, which makes it harder to make changes inside the code.

Ok its looking like last night/this morning was busy in Androidland.
After several reports of Sprints EVO 4G OTA update bricking phones it was pulled from Sprint’s servers yesterday afternoon/eve. It looks like it was re-released some time later in a non bricking fashion (Would hate to have been one of those programmers that got that call!). More Here: Android Police
Verizon seems to be getting a little antsy about Sprints 4g coverage and phones, Sprint announced expanded coverage and its second Phone the Samsung Epic 4G over the last week. To combat Big Red’s customer’s fears they have 25 markets scheduled for a November 15th roll out. I can see it now “Yes Grandma I’m checking email but its 4g!” at the Thanksgiving dinner table. There has finally been a “Simple Root” for the EVO 4G though it is unclear if the latest OTA (see above) will break this or not, It should be pretty simple to use and this should help facilitate a healthy ROM/Development community for the Sprint Beast! Read More: Android Guys
